Saturday Church, written and directed by Damon Cardasis, follows Ulysses (Luka Kain), a 14-year-old questioning his gender and place in life.It is a colorful, musical catharsis, not just for the LGBTQ community, but many others who exist constantly on the “outskirts” of society. Saturday Church is a sweet film with a purity of purpose and intent, elevating it above other films portraying similar struggles.The 2017 documentary "Kiki" showed the world of the underground ballroom scene in New York City, where the different neighborhood clubs are safe havens for LGBTQ youth, often kicked out of their homes and living on the streets.
Perhaps ironically, Saturday Church doesn’t play until Sunday evening.
